There is a sudden spate in buying used cars but the buyers are armed with reasons aplenty. After all, there is less capital investment involved; the used cars market has evolved much in recent years and there is no dearth of dealers selling certified used cars with warranties too; and the financing rates have plummeted bringing luxury cars within reach of many who have been dreaming of owing one of these cars for so long.

So if you too want to join the bandwagon, here's what to check for in the vehicle before you actually buy it:

1. The engine shouldn't make any unusual noises when you start and stop it. Also check it to see if it can pick up high speeds without any hiccups. Remember to check the engine for any marks or dents; these are surefire indications that the automobile had been in an accident. If the engine is not the same as has been mentioned in the original invoice of the vehicle then enquire into what necessitated the replacement.

2. Examine closely the chassis of the car. Scratches, dents, and signs of paint specks or over-spray are tell-tale signs that the car has been involved in an accident. While checking for signs of re-painting, remember to also open the trunk and the rubber lining that is inside the car door.

3. Check the alignment of the wheels. One way to check this is to look for uneven wearing and tearing on the tires and balding on the sides or middle; these are indications that the wheels are not aligned properly.

4. Check the condition of the battery, the headlights, and the indicators. Also gauge the condition of the upholstery and be meticulous in your search and peer into every nook and cranny of the seats. Their condition will also determine how much should you shell for the automobile.

5. Insist on a test drive. This gives you the best opportunity to test the car when it is actually running on the road. Drive to a deserted stretch of a road and test the brakes. And while you are behind the wheels, make sure that you also check the condition of the clutch plates.

6. Do not forget to check if the air conditioning unit is in top-notch working condition. You can heat the engine to check if the cooling unit is functioning properly. Also check the defroster, cooler, and the fans.

Not all dealers will allow you to bring a mechanic to inspect used cars. So you need to keep the above-mentioned checklist in mind before you actually buy one. When looking for used cars, Boise residents would advise that you approach a renowned dealer who stocks cars of varied makes and all in top-notch working condition.
